Rent a Track Car at Charlotte ROVAL | Charlotte Motor Speedway
Concord, NC — The Oval With a Plot Twist
Charlotte Motor Speedway took a 1.5-mile NASCAR superspeedway, cut a road course through the infield, stitched it together with the high banks, added a couple of chicanes, and called it a ROVAL. It sounds like it shouldn't work. It absolutely works.
The result is a 2.28-mile, 17-turn hybrid circuit where you're braking from banking speeds into tight infield hairpins, then launching back onto 24 degrees of superspeedway banking at full throttle. It's unlike anything else on the Southeast track day calendar, and Hot Lap Rentals is building toward connecting you with rental cars at Charlotte HPDE events.
The Track
The Charlotte ROVAL is 2.28 miles with 17 turns. It combines sections of the 1.5-mile superspeedway oval — including the 24-degree banked turns — with a purpose-built infield road course that was originally designed in 1970 and has been reconfigured multiple times, most recently in 2024.
The lap starts on the oval. You carry big speed down the frontstretch before diving into the infield section, where everything changes. The infield turns are tight, technical, and flat — a completely different driving challenge from the high-speed banking. Turn 7 is a sharp left-hand hairpin that feeds you back onto the oval's banked section, and the contrast is jarring in the best way. One moment you're in second gear working through a tight infield complex, the next you're flat out on a superspeedway with banking that pushes you into the seat.
The backstretch chicane is a deliberate speed scrubber before you re-enter the high banks. It requires commitment and precision — carry too much speed and the curbs will launch you, brake too hard and you've compromised your exit onto the banking.
The frontstretch chicane (Turns 16-17) is the last challenge before the start/finish line. The 2024 reconfiguration created a much sharper right-hander that tests late-braking discipline right at the end of the lap.
The setup compromise is what makes the ROVAL fascinating. A car that's perfect on the oval — stiff, high-speed stable, confidence-inspiring through banking — may be a pig in the tight infield turns. And a car dialed for the infield might feel nervous at 150+ mph on the banking. Every lap is a negotiation between two completely different tracks.
Why Rent?
Charlotte hosts HPDE events through various organizations, and the ROVAL layout is available for track day use outside of the NASCAR schedule. It's right in the heart of NASCAR country — Concord, NC, just northeast of Charlotte — which makes it accessible for drivers across the Carolinas and the broader Southeast.
The banking puts unique demands on a car. Sustained high lateral loads at speed stress tires, bearings, and cooling in ways that flat road courses don't. Renting a car that's been prepped for this kind of abuse means you're not discovering your daily driver's limits the hard way.
Also: the ROVAL is one of the few places where you can say "I drove Charlotte Motor Speedway" and mean something completely different from a NASCAR ride-along. This is you, in a real car, at real speed, on real banking.

Getting There
Charlotte Motor Speedway 5555 Concord Parkway S Concord, NC 28027
Just northeast of Charlotte off I-85. Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) is about 30 minutes west. The speedway is in the middle of NASCAR's backyard — Hendrick, Penske, Stewart-Haas, and dozens of other race shops are all within a few miles.
The facility itself is massive — nearly 2,000 acres — with world-class infrastructure. 95,000 permanent seats ring the oval. Night racing lights illuminate the track (Charlotte was the first superspeedway to install them). If your HPDE event runs into the evening, it's a special experience.
