About the track

The ROVAL combines part of Charlotte Motor Speedway’s oval with an infield road course. The appeal is in the contrast: banked speedway sections connect with tighter, flatter infield corners and chicanes, all within the same lap.

Layout matters especially here. Charlotte revised the NASCAR configuration in 2024, extending the run out of Turn 5, creating a new Turn 6, sharpening the Turn 7 hairpin, and changing Turn 16. The speedway’s reconfiguration announcement explains those changes.

The figures on this page describe that 17-turn NASCAR layout. A driving event may use a different combination of infield sections and chicanes. Before studying braking references or corner numbers, compare the organizer’s map with the reference map and video. “Charlotte road course” alone does not establish which layout you will drive.

A little history

The ROVAL made its NASCAR national-series debut in 2018, adding a road-course event to a venue long associated with oval racing. Its layout continued to evolve, including the 2024 changes shown in the video below.

There is a significant update for 2026: Charlotte announced that its fall NASCAR weekend would return to the 1.5-mile oval. The ROVAL’s NASCAR history remains part of the venue’s story, but the fall race should no longer be described as a current ROVAL event.

The speedway is in Concord, northeast of Charlotte. For a driving event, get the designated entrance, paddock location, and check-in instructions from the organizer. Large facilities can host several activities, making the event-specific arrival information more useful than a general spectator map.
