Track Days Near Atlanta

A track day, usually run as HPDE (High Performance Driving Education), is a day of driving a car on a closed road course at an event run by a club or organizer. Drivers are split into run groups by experience. Novice groups get classroom time and an instructor in the car. In most run groups, passing happens only in set zones, when the driver ahead waves you by. HPDE is driver education. It is not racing.

Three tracks are within about a three-hour drive of downtown Atlanta. Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in Braselton is about 1 hour away. Atlanta Motorsports Park in Dawsonville is about 1 hour 20 minutes away. Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, Alabama, is about 2 hours 30 minutes away.

You don't need to own a track car. Hot Lap Rentals lists track cars you can rent from their owners. Find a car on Hot Lap Rentals, contact the owner about your date, then register for the event with the organizer. Upcoming dates for each track are listed below.

Which tracks are on this page?

Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in Braselton, Atlanta Motorsports Park in Dawsonville, and Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham. Each one has a track guide on this site and a link to the cars that list it.

Do I need track experience?

No. Most HPDE organizers run a novice group for first-time drivers, with classroom sessions and an instructor who rides with you. Each organizer sets its own run group rules, so check them before you register. Car owners can set their own experience requirements too, so tell the owner how much track time you have when you contact them.

Where do the dates come from?

They come from the published event calendar on this site. An event stays on this page through its end date, then drops off on the next Eastern calendar day.

Does a listing mean a car is free on that date?

No. Cars at a track are listings that name that track. The site does not show whether a car is available on an event date. Ask the owner before you register.

What does a track day cost?

There are two costs. The organizer charges an entry fee, which varies by organizer and track and is posted on the event registration page. The car owner sets the rental price. Ask the owner what the price includes, such as fuel and tires, before you register.
