About the track

Road Atlanta follows the hills of North Georgia, giving the lap a rhythm that is hard to appreciate from a flat map. The climbing and descending sections are part of its identity, along with the esses and the downhill approach to Turn 12 before the front straight.

For a first visit, it helps to learn the circuit in sections. Find the esses on the map, follow the route onto the back straight, then trace the return through the Turn 10 complex and down to the start/finish line. A little history

Road Atlanta opened on September 13, 1970, with a Can-Am race won by Tony Dean. Construction had taken just six months. Don Panoz bought the circuit in 1996 and invested in major improvements, including changes to the layout and new paddock facilities. Michelin became the track's title partner in 2019. Its official history follows the transformation from a Georgia farm into an international racing venue.

What runs here

Road Atlanta has a broad event calendar, with opportunities to watch racing and to drive:

Professional racing: Petit Le Mans and MotoAmerica bring sports cars and motorcycles to the circuit.
Club and endurance racing: The calendar includes SCCA, NASA Southeast, and the 24 Hours of Lemons.
HPDE and track days: Visiting organizers run driving events, including Jzilla, Chin Track Days, and Just Track It.
Car-club events: Groups such as Peachstate PCA and BMW CCA also appear on the schedule.

Track tips

For most events, competitors can get into the track to drop trailers at 5:00 pm the night before.
Trailers cannot be left at the track between events.
Gate opening times depend on the event, so call 800-849-7223 to confirm. Gates stay open 24 hours during camping spectator events.
Pets are allowed on a leash but not in restricted access areas, and owners must clean up after them.
From I-85, take Exit 129 and head west on Highway 53. The track lists Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as 62 miles away.
